Alumni and friends are invited to enjoy a wonderful evening of dining to share in the culture and camaraderie of Newfoundland and Labrador, at the Seventh Annual Calgary Affinity Dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary, Alberta. Guests will be treated to a performance by Andrew O'Brien and Catherine Allan, whose earnest blend of acoustic folk/pop and roots has been gaining them significant critical and popular praise. Thoughtful arrangements and assured harmony allows for the intimate musical conversations that have made their live shows so endearing and memorable. They perform with the openheartedness of two people that live the songs they sing, and the vulnerability and closeness between them in performance is palpable. Andrew an Catherine are both graduates of Memorial university. Many of Andrew's songs speak about growing up in St John's and his years as a struggling artist in Corner Brook. Like so many Newfoundland and Labrador musicians, the melancholy beauty of traditional balladry washes underneath all their finest work.
