ED-2030B (McCann Centre)

How can I make my seminar classes more engaging? This professional development experience will introduce participants to practical skills and educational scholarship related to the promotion of meaningful student discussions within the university seminar setting. Participants will explore some of the common challenges associated with teaching seminars and will be introduced to instructional strategies for encouraging meaningful and active student discussions.

After completing this learning experience participants will be able to:

  1. Outline concrete strategies identified in the scholarship of teaching and learning for promoting active and effective seminars;
  2. Describe the characteristics and skills of an effective seminar leader;
  3. Recognize the advantages and challenges posed by active-learning and collaborative approaches within the seminar classroom.
