ED-5021

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a curriculum development and instructional approach in which the problem drives the learning. Learning begins with a problem and students determine what they have to learn before they solve the problem.

The approach can be used to support students in developing domain knowledge, effective problem solving skills, self-directed learning, and effective collaboration and communication skills.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will:

  1. Identify the key features of PBL.
  2. Examine how to design a PBL experience.
  3. Share views on how to design and facilitate effective collaborative group work.
  4. Explore the role of the student in PBL.

Facilitator: Dr. Karen Goodnough, Faculty of Education
