Increasing Engagement in Large Classes: Innovative Ways to Use Online Discussions

Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, 10-11 a.m.
ED-1001

Building a community is at the heart of learning, but interactive and collaborative activities in a large class can be a challenge. Online discussion tools are a great way to bridge this gap in that they offer a way for students to get to know one another, post, read and reply to discussions on course topics, share thoughts about course materials, ask questions, share files, or work with classmates on assignments.

In this session we will focus on the Desire2Learn discussion tool and consider some of the advantages of using online discussions in a large class. We will show how using online discussions can save you time in the classroom, as well as save time in the development, administration and assessment of student engagement.
