Home away from home for the holidays

Nov. 5, 2014

The International Student Advising (ISA) Office is once again inviting members of the Memorial community to pull up an extra chair or two around their dining room tables during the holidays.

The ISA’s annual Holiday Hosting Program matches students with local families who open up their homes on Christmas Day to share a home-cooked meal. In turn, families have the opportunity to learn about other cultures and holiday traditions from around the globe.

By extending the invitation for a festive meal to students who are too far from their home countries to join their families, you can create meaningful memories that will last a lifetime for your guests and your own family.

Over the years, numerous local families have opened their homes to hundreds of international students from all over the globe – from Pakistan, India, China, Bangladesh, Iran, Nigeria, Venezuela and Malaysia, just to name a few.

Faculty, staff or other students who would like to invite a student into their homes for a holiday meal or to learn more about the program can email fad250@mun.ca or call the International Student Advising Office at 709-864-8895 by Sunday, Dec. 7.
