Innovation Week kicked off this week in Newfoundland and Labrador. Memorial University is facilitating a number of events that will bring together students and entrepreneurs with leaders in the private and public sector to support innovation in the province.

Memorial University, through the Harris Centre, Genesis Centre and Grenfell Campus, is hosting events that will foster dialogue and discussion around innovation as it relates to transportation, entrepreneurship and waste management solutions.

The Harris Centre is hosting Transportation for Life, Work & Play: The Movement of People To, From and Within Atlantic Canada for the Annual Atlantic Provinces Transportation Forum at the Holiday Inn, May 19-20. The conference will look at how we can adapt and enhance the transportation systems within Atlantic Canada to improve the experience of people who travel to, from and within the region. The focus will be on governance, innovation, technology, economic, social and environmental policy, and social equity.

The main outcome of the conference will be a series of practical policy recommendations to all levels of government. For more information, visit here.

The Genesis Centre will host Tales From Entrepreneurs on Thursday, May 21, at Bitter’s Pub, St. John’s campus. The event, which will be live broadcasted by Startup Canada, will feature the greatest triumphs and embarrassing moments of running a startup from three entrepreneurs with strong ties to Memorial University, as well as the valuable lessons they learned along the way. There will be an informal environment to network and ask questions. The Genesis Centre is Memorial University’s business incubator for technology-based ventures with high-growth potential.

Tales From Entrepreneurs takes place at 7 p.m. Tickets are limited. Register here.

Grenfell Campus will host an event called It Is Easy Being Green! in Corner Brook. Grenfell is in its third year of operating one of the largest industrial composters in the province. In 2014 alone, more than 30,000 kilograms of organic material was diverted from the local landfill due to the efforts and support of the Grenfell Campus and its partners. Learn how the program is delivered at Grenfell and visit the industrial composter to see how the magic works. Innovation Week is a four-day event that brings together entrepreneurs, youths and business leaders with private and public partners in an open forum to showcase innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador. This year’s theme is Propelling Innovation. With 22 different partner organizations, including the Genesis Centre, the events are meant to connect and empower a collaborative community partnership in the innovation ecosystem.
