Air Labrador Opera RoadShow Tour takes off

By Leslie Vryenhoek | May 8, 2006

In May, primary and elementary school audiences around the province will be treated to pageantry, drama and music as students from Memorial's School of Music take opera on the road. While this isn't the first opera roadshow, it is the first time the project has ventured into Labrador thanks to a commitment from Air Labrador to cover the cost of flights - a gift of about $50,000.

The roadshow company will perform The Vinland Traveler, a distinctly Newfoundland saga composed for children by Gander native Dean Burry.

Listen to an interview with Dr. Caroline Schiller, director of opera at the School of Music, and hear a sampling of the show.
