ACE Memorial advances to semi-finals in France
ACE Memorial has emerged successfully from the first round of competition, beating out teams from Germany, Botswana, Kyrgyzstan and China at the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) World Cup. Fifteen members of the ACE Memorial team are in Paris, France this week competing against teams from 48 other countries.
ACE Memorial has advanced to the semi-finals, which are set for today, to face teams from Mexico, the Philippines, and China. The final round of competition will then be comprised of four teams, the winner from each semi-final league.
Since it's inception in 1992, ACE Memorial has grown to be one of the strongest teams involved in the ACE (Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship) organization. In May, a team of Canadian business leaders acting as judges at the ACE National Exposition decided that ACE Memorial was “the most enterprising campus on Canada” and the best choice to represent Canada at the SIFE World Cup.
“We are thrilled to support Memorial University of Newfoundland as they vie for one of the final four spots in the semi-final round of competition, said ACE Canada President David Henderson. “The team has shown sheer determination and risen to the challenge with a heavy hitting presentation.”
The ACE Memorial presentation, which incorporated PowerPoint, music and video clips was well received at the first round of competition and Dr. Gary Gorman, dean of the Faculty of Business, described their presentation as “flawless”.
The final round of competition and the award ceremony will be broadcasted online via a webcast today.
Meanwhile, an online guestbook has been created so faculty, staff and students can send congratulations to the ACE Memorial team.
