Application deadline for Memorial Ambassador Program extended

Students interested in the Memorial Ambassador Program have an extra week to apply. The deadline has been extended to Friday, Feb. 17.

The program provides Memorial volunteers with an opportunity to represent the university at a wide range of activities and events such as donor recognition events, advancement opportunities, convocation, campus tours, student recruitment events and high school visits.

Memorial student Sarah Predham got involved in the program back in the spring of 2010.

"I was already volunteering with Memorial in a couple of different ways and one of my friends suggested to me that I should apply. So, I looked into the program, and it seemed like it would be a lot of fun and provide many opportunities to learn new skills," said Ms. Predham.

Once selected, ambassadors receive specialized training in areas such as communications, networking and dining etiquette. Upon successful completion of the program, ambassadors will receive a personalized letter of commendation from the deputy provost and associate vice-president (academic).

Ms. Predham says a highlight of the program for her was when she received the opportunity to travel to the Affinity Dinner in Ottawa this past fall.

“I was ecstatic. First, the compliment of being asked to represent the current students was tremendous, but the experiences of being at such a prestigious event were once in a lifetime. Myself and the other ambassador, Shane Arsenault, were recognized by the speakers and were also able to meet many established politicians and mentors.”

Ms. Predham said the Affinity event was her best experience so far in her involvement with the program, and that it was great to use her ambassador training at such an event.

“I sincerely feel that this program has provided experience on a professional level that I would not have the opportunity to seek otherwise,” said Ms. Predham. “The events that I have attended have illustrated how to portray myself in social occasions that are of a higher professional level than one may come across without the Memorial Ambassador Program. As well, the people I have met through the program, from networking at events or fellow ambassadors, have enriched my involvement in it.”

The program is administered by Student Affairs and Services in partnership with the Division of Marketing and Communications, the Office of Student Recruitment and Alumni Affairs and Development.
